Filled Buns is not an especially descriptive name for these, but that what was what the title was on my mom’s recipe card. It’s an unusual marriage of deviled ham spread, hard boiled egg and cheese that once baked becomes one of my childhood comfort food favorites back in the 1970s. You can serve this on the keto bread or bun of your choice (see note below) or baked as a dip for keto crackers or pork rinds.

Also, this recipes scales wonderfully, just double or triple each ingredient based on how many people you want to serve.

Ingredients

  • 4.25 ounce can deviled ham spread (120g)

  • 1 large hardboiled egg, chopped

  • 1 TB finely chopped onion

  • 1 baby dill pickle, finely chopped

  • 2 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, cut into small cubes (55-60g)

  • garlic powder to taste

  • ground black pepper to taste

Directions

  • Combine all ingredients.
  • Place on the keto friendly bun of your choice.
  • Bake at 350F or 175C for 25 minutes.
  • Allow to cool for a minute or two and then serve

Notes

  • Nutritional info does not include whatever bun you choose to use. Also, you can use more of the filling and make just 2 buns and the total carb count remains the same.
  • As an alternative to commercial keto buns, you could use a couple of chaffles as the bun for the “cleaner” keto alternative.
