gramsBack in my pre-keto days, I loved serving chutney with various Indian dishes and appetizers, but it has so many uses beyond that (as I describe below and in the video). Unfortunately, chutneys are pretty high in carbs, so I set out to make a low carb version that still brings all the sweet and savory flavor.
Major Grey’s chutney is wonderful with a cheese tray or part of a charcuterie board. It can be baked on top of brie or a brick of cream cheese. It can be used as a glaze for protein, like chicken, chicken wings or pork chops. I can be used as a sandwich spread or made into a vinaigrette by whisking it with oil and vinegar.
Ingredients
1/2 cup no sugar added apricot jam (140g) *see note below
1 TB apple cider vinegar (15mL)
1/2 tsp grated ginger, either fresh or jarred
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1 pinch cinnamon
1 pinch ground cloves
Directions
- Combine all of the ingredients in a small sauce pan.
- Cook over medium-low heat, whisking periodically, until the sauce starts to bubble (about 10 minutes)
- Remove from heat and transfer to the storage vessel of you choice and allow to cool before transferring to the fridge overnight.
- Serve as a condiment, glaze, or any of the other serving suggestions listed above.

Notes
- Macronutrients were calculated based on a serving size of 1 tablespoon.
- I recommend the Good Good brand of no sugar added apricot jam. Unlike the Smucker’s brand, Good Good does not contain maltodextrin.
